When You Have to Move in the Rain

Moving in the rain is not always the first choice but sometimes there’s just no avoiding it. These are some small steps and procedures you can take to reduce any of your items, or yourself, being damaged.

Gather Boxes Indoors Before Moving in the Rain

Find a place in you home to gather all your furniture closest to the door to avoid as much sogginess as possible. The garage makes a great space to gather your boxes before having to load them in the truck. You can take it a step further and put the items that need to be loaded in the back of the truck closest to the door. This way they will get moved first.

If you are forced to move in the rain, preparation is going to be your best friend.

It would be wise to have a pop-up canopy by the truck. This way if something doesn’t fit right, it can be moved out to the covered area for a minute while you rearrange.

Tape Down Tarps Ahead of Time

The last thing you want is to start making a mess in your new home. Avoid trekking dirt into your old and new home by laying down tarps or non-slip mats by the entryway. You will want to be safe and tape down any tarps so that they don’t move around and become a hazard.

If you find yourself with extra cardboard boxes, lay them down on the floor as well to catch any other extra wet dirtiness they may be on shoes.

To keep your hands dry as well, place towels in the truck and house. This will also avoid and items slipping from your hands.

Stretch Wrap and Covers

Depending on how much time you have, investing in covers is a great tip. For example, a mattress cover and a couch cover. To keep out all the moisture, you can wrap your precious furniture with blankets and then tightly with stretch wrap.
